Health
care is an arena in which spatial analysis has a natural fit. For
instance, diseases are geographically dependent phenomena and so epidemiologists
are familiar with the use of geographic methods.
Team members established the Ministry of Health Surveillance Department
GIS. Ministry staff were trained in the operation of ArcGIS for processing
surveillance data and production of incidence maps.
A strategic plan for the expansion of GIS usage to help the Department
better meet the operational needs of the Ministry of Health and the
country, was produced.
